Throughout my life I have been fortunate to meet many people from all walks of life and have been told by many of my friends and family that I was always the connector among us. The Carey Connector is a way of bringing new connections together each month through interviews with local service providers and my team members at Senné.

Carey Connector Service Provider Interview January 2019
Greg Giokas, Senior Loan Officer NMLS#441885 at Residential Mortgage Services
How did you get into this profession?
I was frantically looking for a job during a time of a recession. I studied Finance and Economics at Brandeis so I was naturally prone to working in a field that required number crunching. It appealed to me. I had friends who had graduated a few years before me that were working in the mortgage industry. It was an industry that had an antiquated past and most of the loan officers were slowly aging out of the market. Tech was just beginning to inject itself into the industry and it made for an exciting environment to be a part of.
What do you like most about your profession?
Interaction with people. I absolutely enjoy connecting with my clients and seeing the excitement in their eyes when they accomplish their goal of buying a home. I always tell them that purchasing a home is one of the most fulfilling and exciting investments that a person will make in their life.
What don’t you like about your profession?
I would say that I don’t appreciate some of my competitors whose interests may not be in line with the client. They may not take the time to fully review and listen to the needs and expectations of the client putting them at risk when buying a home.
What’s the greatest challenge you see in the market right now?
I would say that a potentially rising rate environment may make home affordability a challenge. Also the shortage of homes for a growing population may also make things challenging for buyers.
What are your plans to overcome these challenges?
My plan has always been to provide exceptional service to my client and to provide them with every resource available in order to give them a competitive advantage over another buyer. This includes competitive loan products and aggressive closing times.
If I was going to ask a colleague or client what makes you good at your profession, what would they say?
The three words that I have always lived and worked by: Reputation / Dedication / Communication
Reputation: Always looking out for the best interest of my client and keeping myself accountable at all times
Dedication: Working around the clock and going beyond the call of duty for my clients
Communication: Providing clear and concise information/updates to my clients and all parties involved in the transaction
What are your passions outside of your profession?
I love skiing, CrossFit and Yoga!
What charitable organizations are you involved with?
I love supporting St. Jude’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. The Boston Children’s hospital is particularly near and dear to me as they helped perform heart surgery on my 3 month old daughter. I am forever grateful to the team that helped my daughter who is now a healthy and rambunctious 4 year old!
What is some advice you can give to people new to your profession?
I would say to anyone new coming into the profession is to be patient and be humble. This is a difficult profession to earn a reputation in. You have to be diligent and dedicated to improving your craft in order to gain the respect and trust of a client and a business partner.
